About the Story

When German-Danish cellist Jens Sassendorf is offered a position with the prestigious Royal Danish Opera Orchestra in Copenhagen, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. As part of his appointment, he is entrusted with an extraordinary instrument—an antique cello that has belonged to the opera's collection for more than a century.

But the dream soon turns into a nightmare.

Jens learns that the previous musician assigned to the cello was found murdered beneath the opera house. Then a fellow musician delivers a chilling warning:

Stay away from the cello.

Driven by curiosity, Jens begins to uncover the instrument's forgotten past. His search leads him deep into a mystery buried for more than 150 years—a secret so dark that everyone who has ever tried to unravel it has paid a terrible price.

Jens soon realizes that playing the cello could cost him his life.
